Hygrophila Pinnatifida

Didn't work for me in a hard water, medium light, low tech setup: it kinda melted right away and didn't really recover, then the stems rotted before the new leaves grew back properly. The stems looked like it had been grown emersed.

Yeah my attempt with this plant didn't go well either, I had it planted in gravel and have heard since that it's better attached to wood/rock, mine just slowly deteriorated and in about 2 weeks there was nothing left (though that was before introducing Co2/EI ferts). In my lfs they had it in sand and it looked OK but only OK. It's a pretty plant when healthy though so might be worth a try if you can give it ideal conditions.

quote from the Tropica profile "The horizontal side shoots easily attach to both wood and rocks"
wonder if it's best tied on instead?

If I was going to buy it again then I definitely wouldn't put it in the substrate, give it a try on wood/rock and see how it does because that's what I'd do. I stuck it in the gravel because of the lfs having it in the sand, typical lfs.

I had it in fine gravel as well, but it took somewhere in the 1-3 month region to die. Looked really good for the first 2-3 weeks.

I used it a while back and it did well for a few months, then did a massive melt for some reason. A nice plant, but not an easy hygro imo

This plant likes high light levels, slightly acidic water, elevated C02, and high potassium levels. Once it gets established after initial shock when first planted, it grows like a weed, very easily and quick growth. Not for a low tech tank though.
