I have two potted Angustifolia that have been in the tank for roughly six weeks and all was going well.
During the past week they have rapidly gone down hill and developed holes in the leaves and started sprouting very thin leves.
Is this normal?
The reason they are potted is because I only have a very thin layer of sand (1-2cm) and when I got them the roots were very well established and I didn`t want to damage them.
I also have a couple of Amazon Swords, Java Fern and a Stricta that are doing very well, weighted down with lead and roots are established.
Any idea why the two Angustifolia are not doing as well as the others.
Currently running around 1 watts per gallon, light is on for five hours in the morning, two hour break, then five hours in the afternoon.

I would say from the description that your it possibly has a
Lack of Potassium

Pinholes in leaves which slowly become larger over time. Leaves begin to curl, become yellow from edge inwards and also lose resistance to disease.

You do know your supposed to take them out of the pots right? :) I guess maybe they just used up all the nutrients in the mineral wool and are now suffering?
Your also supposed to take the lead weights off, but if they are doing ok and it's keeping them down then you could leave them on, just make sure they are pretty loose so not at all constricting the plants.

The best option I think you have is to add more sand, remove the pots/lead weights and plant them (naturally apart from your java fern), then put in some root tabs. Make sure you get the ones that slowly dissolve over a long time like the tropica or ADA ones, rather than cheap ones that just fizz when you put them in the water-though the good ones seem expensive they are much better value in the long run.

Another option is to replant them in bigger pots that have a good plant substrate in them, or just sand and root tabs (but the plant substrate is better).

In the short term, if it is a potassium deficiency the this will help, but shouldent be needed if you go with the above options :good: .
