Hydor Co2 Green Advanced Unit

great, thanks for your help. I dont suppose you can help with my low KH issues in my other thread?

I know someone who injects CO2 in multiple tanks with 3dkh he has no problems, if you want you could add bicarbonate soda to keep the ph buffered.

hi aaron, yeah i will have to add bicarb as my kh is much lower than 3, i have another thread just below this one, any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated as i really dont know where to start.

Thanks i'll have a look.

If anyone has any experience with the hydor system please let me know, i've never set up pressurised CO2 before so any advice would be fantastic.

Oh also this package says it has a quote: 'Turbo Diffuser increases CO2 efficiency by 40% (compared to a normal CO2 diffuser)'. What the hell is a turbo diffuser? I would prefer a ceramic diffuser, is this 'turbo diffuser' ceramic?

There is one Hydor option that lets you better monitor your CO2 levels. That said, I think the tank is really small. I doubt it lasts as long as they claim, and I stuck with my fermentation kit instead, until I am able to get a fire extinguisher (a real upgrade). Then again, I can't really get a ground cover with my existing substrate, so I won't upgrade until I finally move. You may be in a better situation, with better substrate, so if you want a good ground cover, I'd recommend going with the real upgrade instead of relying on the manufacturer's claims.

"nah i dont wanna mess around with a fire extinguisher. Are there any refillable canisters on the market that would fit the hydor regulator? "

I'm to aquarium planting but I have just baught a PUB CO2 bottle of ebay for £20 will let you know how it works out.

Does anyone know where to buy the "supplementary pin valve" needed to get a more precise bubble count with the hydor advanced system?
Also did I read correctly that the JBL 500 and 2kg bottles can be used with this system?

And lastly (for now thanks) what is a good bubbles per sec/min rate to get a safe level of Co2 in the tank.

KH 3
Ph 7.2

here is a needle valce which allows you to lower or higher the amount of CO2 injected: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CO2-Needle-Valve-Reg...p3286.m63.l1177

JBL bottles work

what size is your tank mfcphil?

Thanks for rthe reply...I have a Juwel vision 180...

180 Liters
Juwel internal filter
Fluval external Filter.

Getting the T5 lighting bar delivered this week.

Plants.

Lobelia Cardinalis
Limnophila Sessiliflora
Hydrocotyle verticillata
Glossostigma elatinoides
Alternanthera reineckii 'purple'
Crytocoryne beckettii 'petchii'

Bubble rate is at about 1 every 5 seconds but this has to be kept in check because it makes its own mind up half of the time. (Is this rate ok?)
Would take on board any advice you would all like to give....I have kept fish for a lot of years but have recently changed from Cichlids to tropical planted tank...blue rams dwarf gourami's and so on.

1 bubble every 5 seconds is quite low IMO, i would raise it to 1BPS for starters, then raise as necassary - do you have a drop checker to measure CO2 levels? There is a guide in my signature.

The line connects on the bottom, and left of the image, the wheel (at top of image) is then turned and this opens or closes the valve to let more or less CO2 through.

I have taken your advice and upped the bubble rate to 1 per second...Thanks again for the help!!

I bought 3 x 74gram little bottles when I got the unit, as I have just started using it I am not sure how long they last.
But I intend to get the 500g or 2kg when these are finished.

Does the pipe go from the hydor pressure valve to the first pipe and then from the second hole to the bubble counter...or is this instead of having the hydor valve?

The hydor valve is a needle valve, so perhaps you mean something else by the "supplementary pin valve"

If you could get a picture up then it would help, or even links to what you mean. sign up to photobucket or imageshack

It says in the instructions that a "supplementary pin valve" (not provided) can be used for more precise regulation.

I have just paid for the one you linked to

So does/could a pipe go from the first valve to the first pin hole on yours and then to the bubble counter so its all linked and be more precise?

you must have CO2 airline going into the valve, and coming from the valave to connect to the bubble counter - it cannot be connected as one whole unit.

cannister > Regulator > Solenoid (optional) > Needle Valve > Check Valve > Bubble Counter > Diffuser/ Reactor. CO2 Airline is also needed.
