i have 2 female guppies and 1 male and 2 female plattys and 1 male
could they breed

guppies may breed with each other...platies may breed with each other...it is genetically impossible for platies to hybridize with guppies

Don't do hybrids! Keep them seperate, there could be fryu with defects. Bad idea. Oh, and I voted wrong because you asked about platies and guppies in the topic, but in the poll, you asked about platties and swordtails.

To clear things up, Platties and Swordtails will cross breed. But a guppie and plattie will not.

So where's your claim that swordtail/platy hybrids have defects? They are ALREADY hybrids for very long time, what you think why swordtails and platies has same color strains like Mickey Mouse, Tux, Wag etc...and its not easy to find a purebred platy or swordtail in pet stores. So I say go ahead let him breed swordtails with platies, its not big deal anymore.
