I know that heat can effect fish metabolism and make fish hungrier, but I am surprised by the fish in one of my tanks - the tank is warm but not excessively warm, but they are definitely more hungry recently (rainbows, gouramis, tetras, botias, ruby shark, bristlenose, plec, corys). They eat Aquarian tropical flake in a few seconds every time I put more in and I feel like I am overfeeding. This applies to the first four on the above list, mostly. I feed them twice a day. Is Aquarian flake nutritious enough, I wonder? I also put Tabimen or Algae flakes for the bottom feeders, plus courgette or cucumber for the plec and anyone else who wants to have a go at it.

Or - is seemingly excessive hunger a symptom of something?

I have never heard of hunger being a symptom of anything, but if so...my fish have it bad, what ever it is. LOL They're always hungry for something. I put food in the water and away they go, and then still look for bits on the floor afterwards. But, then I do worry about overfeedin, so maybe I'm not feeding enough.

Warmer ambient temperatures and increased sunlight levels do indeed speed up fishes metabolisms and increase their demand for food, i find myself going through an extra couple of bags of prawns and whitebait each week during the summer months when the fish are growing most strongly.

yes, when it gets warmer, the reaction rate of digesting food increases. its chemistry! digesting food is an exothermic reaction. wow thats cool, hahaha
