Most of the young gouramis have now left the bubble nest and are free swimming, i would just like to know if anyone with experience could tell me the best way to keep my tank well oxygenated as i have had to take the filter out. I have lots of plants but for the first few weeks it says to have the filter switched off, but i would feel much better if there was a way to keep the tank well oxygenated.
Any tips well help
you better to have a filter on as this will build up ammonia and kill all fry you need a sponge filter or something or put tights round an internal filter to cover it and keep it going so that no fry get sucked in!
as mentioned by rocknurworld you are better off having a sponge filter in the tank to keep ammonia levels down and oxygen levels up. It doesn't have to bubble fast but a few bubbles will help keep the O2 levels up. You can also just use an airstone and have it bubbling away gently in a corner.
Make sure you have a coverglass on the tank as the fry will start to take air from the surface. And if the air temperature is different from the water temeprature they can die. A coverglass will help keep the air and water temps similar.
Well done on breeding them
