i have a 29 gallon with a male and female gourami, a male and female krib, 5 long fin danios, dwarf gymnogeophagus, and 2 cutteri cichlid. im just woundering how this is, they all seem to get along

How old are all the fish? If they have reached maturity and are still getting along, then it sounds fine to me. I wonder about the type of gourami you have though? If they are anything other than dwarf or honey gourami or the other small types, than they are not suitable for the tank size. I don't know about your cutteri either..how big do those get?

they are dwarfs, not sure how old they are. The cutteri get between 3 and 4 inches i believe

Hi what happened to your other fish? The Jewel, Bichir and the Convict?

This combination is pretty bad as well to be fair - When the Kribs and Cutteri start breeding - both breed very readily in tanks - its going to get pretty nasty and also the Gymnogeophagus - these are pretty specialist fish with really specialist needs, they need a cooling period of about 3 months a year other wise they die and live a fraction of the time they should.

Your best bet is to keep the Kribs and the Gourami and keep the Danios and then you can think of adding some other fish - but fish that you need to research properly and learn about so you know 1. How big they get 2. How aggressive they are 3. If they have any special needs.

If this were my tank I would consider stocking it like this

2 Kribensis - 1 male 1 female
3 Dwarf Gourami - 1 male 2 female
8 Long Finned Danios (though I would consider swapping them to regular finned Danio)
6 Ruby Barbs
6 Dwarf Chain Loaches or 6 Zebra Loaches

And then you would have a little more space for something else. What other fish do you like?

Please take my advice on board this time because last time you just dismissed it straight away, the way you are haphazardly buying fish is not going to be good for the fish, for you and at the end of the day, breaking it right down to basics, buying fish with out knowing anything about them is just a waste of money.

i gave the jewel and convict back and the people at the store told me that the 3 new fish would be ok in the tank, i think i might give the bichir still not sure what im going to do with it. i love loaches so i would have no problem getting those and barbs are fine to but that seems like a lot in a 29 gallon. im just going of what people at the stores i visit tell me. i still dont know much about fish though i really like them and am picking stuff up as i go along.

I love loaches i have 3 kuhli and a dojo all babies in a 20 gallon

Okay, going to a store and just taking the advice is not the best way to do it - when you go to a shop you should have a short list of fish you like and know pretty much everything about them when you buy them.

The Gymnogeophagus is the perfect example - Gymnogeophagus need the cooling period, which means that for 3 or so months in the winter they need the temperature in their tank dropping as it would do in the wild. For some fish this triggers spawning but Gymnogeophagus 100% need this as their metabolism rates fall and rise seasonally with or without the cooling period so if kept in full tropical conditions all year round they get ill, weak and die a year or so after they are bought - though their life span is similar to other cichlids of 5 -7 or more years. Their metabolism effects how they take energy from their food and also impacts on their digestion and also impacts their breathing and gill function - so quite an important factor that you need to know.

Similar story with a lot of the other fish you have had so far, a little bit of reading or googling would have saved problems. Some good sites I like to use (along side this forum) are Seriouslyfish which is a good general profile site - planetcatfish for info on any catfish and loaches.com for info on loaches. Typing the species name into google will turn up a few pages of profiles with adult sizes and recommended tank sizes.

My list is perhaps a little heavy but manageable in a well maintained tank built up over time. It is also just an example of fish suitable for your tank. In a 30g there you have the Gourami which are sometimes a bit territorial for the upper levels and you have the Kribs on the bottom which are territorial but also aggressive when spawning but they need the space. The rest of the fish on that list are schooling fish so their instincts is to stick together and live within a group rather than have an "every fish for them selves" mentality.

Lastly in your 20g btw the Khulis are great in there but the Dojo is big big fish that is going to need to get a bigger tank....

Hope thats helped

the dojo is a real baby he is only about an inch long and will be moved when he gets bigger but for now being with other loaches is good for him.

alright im going to take your advise but are their any other fish you think could go in this tank besides what you listed just so i have some other options.

how would any of these fish be?
any other barbs
harlequin rasbora
or any of the hardier tetra

To be fair there are loads of options for the tank, just throw a big list of names out and there are plenty of members who can make good lists to help you :)

Harlequins would work well, lots of barb options - I quite like Oddessa. I have to admit I am a bit of a biotope fan so when I made the list above I stuck to asian fish like barbs and loaches but there are tons of options. For 30 gallon tanks one of my favorites is the spotted headstander :) A trio of them would look good, especially if you like larger fish like your cichlids :)
