Sooo,.....

I have a new rio 300 picked it up today, now i currently have a 160l with my fish in it, but its sat where i need to put the rio.

How would you go about swapping these??
I was thinking empty half the water out the 160l (which id like to put in the rio) maybe then i can move it with a few mates! plonk it out the way somewhere fill it back up.

Then put the rio in its place let it cycle etc. oh i dunno only got a little flat he he, thank god shes understanding!

Just dont want to stress the fish too much tho too.

I can't imagine it to be possible to move a tank with water in it. Even just half. I'd empty the lot and start afresh, or try and find a new spot for the rio. (mmmmmmmm, you're making me jealous, a nice big rio, I want one!)

empty the tank, I don't think you should lift a tank with water in it, very heavy and will crack, so empty it, move it, then put the 300 where it was, then set up the 160 wherever you want, you could clone the filter as well to speed up the cycle :good:

What about the fish? and i want to use the water in the 300.
Guess its lots of containers!

If i empty the 160 and start again then i might aswell hust put them straight in the 300 which i obviously wont do. And yes i will be cloning the filter.

The old water will not hold anything beneficial, so long as the new (tap) water is the same pH and temp it will be fine.

Moving a tank with any appreciable level of water in it is inherent with risk. Some people have had tanks crack with just an inch of water in. I normally find one inch of water is ok, but it is a risk. Glass is fine with a well balanced constant load, but is not good at the changing point loading that swirling water can cause.

CFC has a thread on moving house, while you won't need to bag up fish, you can just throw them in buckets while moving the tanks around. Ours have spent a few hours in large buckets a few times when new tanks have been brought in.

Yeah like has been said the water doesnt make much difference but if you wanted to couldnt u just put all the water from your 160l into the rio 300(where ever it currently is) then move the 160l to where u want it, then put all the water from the rio back in the 160l, the move the 300 to where the 160 was?
