Not a problem.

I would recommend something slightly acidic, but also sanitary. I don't know about this, but I think rubbing alcohol might work well.

Potassium permanganate, which is another oxidizer. Leave this run in the tank for a couple of days.

Could you please answer my question? Would rubbing alcohol work? In theory?

I'm sure rubbing alcohol would steralize it just fine, I would be worried about it having a little solvent effect on the seams. If you don't scrub with it on the seams they should be fine as long as they are reasonably intact to begin with. Rinse well afterwards, and let it dry.
