The directions says does daily for 7 days and then do a 25% water change after the 7 days. Should I due daily changes because thats what i hear some people talking about.

Some do daily water changes if they have them in a hospital tank with out a filter, what are your water stats, as if they are fine i would run he course, then do a water change at the end.

Should be fine.

When you are finished treating, put some fresh carbon in your filter and it will remove any medication left in the tank. Just be sure to change the carbon back out (or remove it completely as a lot of people don't use carbon at all except to remove medication) after about a week.

I use it all the time for shell rot on crayfish. I just dose for about a week, and usually don't even do a water change, though I know I should be. If you have a filter going, I see no reason to do daily changes.

Hi EliteFishy :)

MelaFix is a mild antibacterial agent that is useful in treating SOME bacterial infections. I find that if it is going to do any good, the fish will show some improvement in just a day or two. If it goes beyond that time, and you don't start to see results, I suggest doing a big water change and moving up to a stronger medication.

The reason for doing frequent water changes during treatment for bacterial infections is to reduce the number of harmful bacteria in the tank, and to make the environment less hospitable for them to reproduce by increasing the oxygen content of the water and removing wastes and any uneaten bits of food which in turn, removes their food supply.

Some people have found that, when they follow the directions on the MelaFix bottle, it has caused chemical burns on their fish. By doing water changes and adding only enough MelaFix to replace what was removed will keep the dosage in the tank low enough to be safe. :D
