I have a newly established 36 gallon bowfront tank with 4 Gouramis and 3 Albino Corydoras. I just noticed 2 of the Gouramis rubbing against decorations & plants in the aquarium and just this morning my smallest female Gourami seems to have tiny white spots on her head. She's also a bit lethargic and she's only really active at feeding time.

I already have a fairly new bottle of Kordon Fungus Rid which claims to treat Ich as well as other things. My question is do I need to cut down on the treatments, like maybe half, because the Corries are sensitive? If so, do I extent the length of treatment twice as long?

Also, will treating the tank have a negative effect on the new bacteria?

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm a newbie to this sport so please explain in "idiot proof" terms..................

I've treated a tank with Quick Cure full strength and the corys did fine. See this thread for more information

Also, maybe post this in the Corydoras section of the forum to get some "expert advice".

Does it? I'm quite surprised about that.

Presumably you have a local fish store that sells all the Kordon range? See what the concentration of active ingredients in your med is, compared to Kordon Rid-Ich (which a US-based member of this forum swears by), and then make a judgement call.

The thing to remember with Whitespot (Ich) is that the parasite can only be killed while it's in its free-swimming stage. Therefore, it's important to keep treating after the spots have disappeared. The instructions should say something along those lines.

The Kordon Rid Fungus says:

•100% Organic
•Effective in fresh, brackish or salt water
•Treats: Ich, fungus, protozoans and dinoflagellates
•Composed of 100% multiple organic ingredients
•Stops infectious and external parasitic invasions from getting started and in turn prevents many secondary infections
•Helps fish fight off a wide spectrum of infections
•Treats up to 960 gallons

That's from the PetCo website...................and those claims are also on the package.

Fair nuff then. What do the instructions say about treating ich?

I'm supposed to add 5ml per 10 gallons, which works out to be 3.5 dropper fulls for my 36 gallon tank. It also says to continue this dose until "all signs of Ich are gone" whatever that means. I assume it means at least a week & probably more like 2 weeks. This stuff looks & smells nasty, I would never recommend this even if it does work, because it smells so bad & it clouds up my normally crystal clear water.

Very depressing..........

I used the stuff before and thought it was useless. And yeah, disgusting smelling. That is why I switched to quick cure.

Do you think it's too late to switch to Quick Cure? Please remember I have Corries and I'm a novice. How much is Quick Cure and can I get it at Petsmart or PetCo?

I used the pets at home whitespot treatment (malachite green).. I also made sure I vacuumed the gravel thoroughly daily to pick up any of the cysts that dropped off the fish (this is the stage prior to free swimming) and although it took a while it did go in the end.. I did lose one fish though a clown loach, but all the other fish recovered.

I have several scaleless fish and they did cope with the treatment but I did watch all the fish very carefully just in case.

Good Luck
