Is it safe to take some coral from the beach say off the coast of florida and put it in your fish tanks.. What should be done to make the coral safe for the fish or should i just scrap the plan all together?

it is against the law to take any sea coral from any beach no matter where u go...if you go to floridas environmental agency it says:

if you arent talking about live sea coral my apologies...otherwise:

When diving or snorkeling, look, but do not touch! Do not grasp, stand or sit on living coral. You may damage the coral and hurt yourself in the process. All coral is protected. It is against the law to collect, harvest or sell Florida corals in state and adjacent federal waters.

State Law prohibits the taking of any live corals from the waters of Florida. First offenders are subject to fines of up to $500 and/or thirty days in jail.

please do not take live coral if u are planning to...it takes hundreds of years for coral to grow and its very fragile...thank you....and once again if this isnt at all what u were talking about i apologize for wasting your time and please do not attack me...thank you

Im not talking about live coral at least i dont believe i am.. I find rocks that wash ashore they are not attached to any reefs i assume they are dead being as they have broken off and washed ashore.

lol i didnt think so...but sorry if u thought i was lecturing you or anything...but i just wanted to make sure because the great barrier reef is dying right now as well as corals in florida because of global warming...so sorry about that...and thanks for not chewing me out like some people would for my mistake

hey no worries.. No body wants them to be gone but most people dont care they say hey a few pieces would look nice whats the big deal.. But then more people say that and then we have a problemm... Yeps.. So well do you know of any ways to treat it or was what was previously said cover it all.

yes that basically covers it all...if its wood then u can bake it...but u have to watch it...also wood can be boiled to but its smelly...rocks can be baked to but caution must be used as they can explode...boiling is probably the best idea...u can bleach it to but be careful u get rid of all the bleach before putting it in a tank

i dont mean live coral either.mine was cut so many years ago.my grandfather had them when he had his first tank.

:-( :rip: grandpa :-( :-( :-( :-(

cant blame the reefs dying on ONLY "global warming" wayyy too many other factors come into play, when you label one catch phrase like "global warming" it minimizes the other causes
we're a dirty, greedy, careless species that wreaks havoc on anything
as a whole, we humans suck :sly:

o0o trust me i know its not just global warming...im majoring in marine biology and im doing a research paper on coral...and theres so many factors...the shifting currents caused by who else but us...boat anchors...stupid people who drive boats right up reefs...greedy coral harvesters...divers touching and sitting on reefs...contamination...dumping...so many things...its terrible...speaking of global warming our ozone is 1mm thick...i think most of you know how small that is...*shakes head*...hopefully i will be gone by then...beause it seems no one wants to change there ways nor cares...

and ginge no one rules this planet...the dinosaurs once "ruled" the earth and look what happened to them...our race thinks we are on the top of everything...i think mother nature is starting to show us a glimpse of what to expect in the coming years...the earths payback time is coming...but im not trying to sound like its the end of the world...i just think mother nature is trying to restore herself the best she can...
