Hi,

I recently lost a gourami to what I think was dropsy. She was treated in a hospital tank for two weeks but only deteriorated so we put her out of her misery. I think we removed her from the tank when she was showing early symptoms (she had an internal lump on one side of her body).

Yesterday I noticed a particularly ill looking zebra danio. An apparent large ulcer on it's side had burst. It looked rather unpleasant and beyond treatment so we removed her instantly.

I'm guessing they were both infected by the same bacteria -

I wanted to treat the tank to prevent further infection but I'm unsure about what I can do with clown loaches.

I was about to give them a mild salt bath but have just read somewhere you can't give scaleless fish salt baths. I have Interpets anti-internal bacteria treatment - which I'm unsure about using too - and I've lost the dosage guide.

I have a further 9 danios, the other gourami to the pair, 4 fighting fish, and 2 plecos.

Is there anything I can do?

Dont give the clowns a salt bath !
I would use a broad specturm anti bacterial medicine. The interpet one should be fine.
I dont know the dosage - cant find it either.
I can look at mine when i get home and post back.

Ok great. Thanks.
Dont' worry about the dosage - I was being thick. Spent ages reading through the booklet looking for it but it's on the back of the bottle....it was early.
