rite.. i have a Fujifilm Finepix s8000fd digital camera.

ive been trying to get some pics of my fish for ages but i cant. my main problem is the focus, i cant get it into focus on the fish.

its really anoying me, can anyone help?

thanks in advance

tinker with the settings, put it into macro then change the light mode, if your lights are on turn the flash off, then hold the shutter half way so the lense will focus and then press it all the way once the fish is in your line of site.

:good:

i think there are quite a lot of comments on this subjet in the photography section, i have made a few comments in there also.

digital photography nowadays is only one aspect of taking a photo. Post production often takes more time than taking the pic. Try taking shots in various ways: lights on, lights off - using flash, use a zoom, and use a normal lens, i always try aiming at an angle when using flash, so you dont get flash bounce.

using photoshop software, you can highlight the fish by blurring out the background, you can increase colour, contract, brightness etc
try getting some photoshop software and trying it, ask for advise on here im sure you'll get answers.

sounds like you are having a problem with depth of field (DoF). Have you tried changing the aperture at all?

having a larger aperture (f/3.5) will have a shallow DoF (and a quicker shutter speed), this will mean that the fish will be in focus and the background will be blurred - if you are to far away, or even too close then it will be hard to focus on the fish. smaller apertures (f/13) gives a greater DoF but you also need more light over the tank (because of a slower shutter speed), or try using the flash and raise the ISO up - but then you get more noise. Obvously there are settings inbetween. If you do use flash you can use some printing paper over the flash to act as a diffuser.

As you can probably see it is about getting ISO, aperture and shutter speed in combination with each other - something that comes with practice.

You could also try manual focus which is sometimes better, or continous focus but this can use your batteries quickly.

This is a good website for learning about camera functions.

with that camera i find that if you press the macro button twice it will put you onto a setting called "super macro" this enables you to focus on the fish perfectly..you dont even need to fiddle around with the other settings, just put it to Auto then press macro twice and hold the button half way to focus.. that should work fine..
