My tap water has PH > 8.
However, my tank has DIY yeast co2 and some bogwood which brought PH down to 6.6

My question is; if I do water change 20 % per day with tap water (PH >8). Will this cause the ph to fluctuate up and down everyday?

Any ways to prevent that?

No clue but I wanted to bump this question back up cuz I'm curious about that, too!

Hi,

The answer is it depends on the hardness of your water. The harder the water, the less likely a PH fluctuation is. However, water changes must be carried out, and many people in your situation do just that, so i wouldn't worry about it too much.

You will probably find that if you are injecting CO2 24/7, your PH will fall during the night anyway, when the plants stop using CO2. It will then rise again as the plants start to use the CO2 when the lights come on again, so PH fluctuations in your tank will not be unheard of.

If you find your water changes cause a problem, you should ask again, but i think it should be fine.

Also, any future questions on this matter would probably receive a better response in the 'Planted Tank' section.

Cheers :good:

Since the DIY CO2 and bogwood lower the pH to the 6s from over 8,, I'd say you have very little buffering capacity. Otherwise, the pH would stay high. Since you are doing 20% water changes daily, I'm very suprised that the pH doesn't stay pretty close to 8 though as the more water changes you do, the closer your water should be to tap water parameters. In any case, I don't think you have anything to worry about as long as your WCs aren't raising the pH back up more than .2 or .3 each time. that shouldn't be an issue for the fish.
