hi just bought a juwel 180 vision tank set up and wonder how to tell if the thermostat is set correct it has a red pointer but dont know how to face it, as it turns all the way around.

Don't go by the temperature guages on the heaters, they're not very accurate and should only be used as a rough guide. Use a thermometer to tell the correct temperature.

Its a bit of trial and error - my juwel thermometer doesn't have a temp indicator either.

What I did was turn the knob all the way down (anti-clockwise) until it stops, then turn it all the way clockwise until it stops - count the number of clicks it makes. Then turn it back down to around halfway (counting the clicks).

Switch it on then and keep an eye on your temp (using your separate thermometer) - you wont be far off, but then you can adjust up or down from there as necessary. I find that a single click of my heater knob equates to about 0.5 deg. C.

bloody Juwel, i got rid of mine. replaced it with two of a smaller wattage. but i had to buy a very pricey digital thermomiter. though you could get something like an Aquaminder!! its got internal and external temp, has an alarm for low/high temp and it looks cool

topic worth looking at http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showto...&hl=digital

Juwel have recently released a new heater which now includes a temperature indicator and is made so that the glass won't crack if suddenly removed from water. It's now standard in all new Juwel aquarium sets and can be purchased seperately. Obviously, they still have the old designs in aquarium sets that were not manufactured within the last few months.
