I'm giving a friend my old 55 gal. tank so she can become addicted to fish keeping :D . The tank is around 8 years old. It's been sitting empty the last few years. The glass is cloudy i'm thinking it's probobly lime build up. Is there a way to get this off. And how should i check it the make sure it's safe to fill up and won't break on my friend  .

You can try a drop of vinegar on a clean cloth, it generally works. If the tank has been empty for as long as you say, I would fill it and check for leaks; once a tank has been in use and then left empty for a considerable time, the silicone sometimes dries out, and ceases to be flexible.

yep I agree with Windsor-aquatic vinegar should work. I use it to clean my coffee pot. Just make sure you rinse the tank thoroughly when you're finished cleaninng it. Put your tank where you don't mind if water leaks and fill it up . Check in an hour or so to see if there are any leaks.
