i know theres so much debate on this topic. ive read thru threads and threads previously, but when it comes to doing it yourself its so different.
i just dont think i could use the hitting method or slicing. the freezing method wasnt a nice experience as the fish was alive for alot longer than i thought it would be and was clearly trying to escape
at least its done now, i guess theres no truley humane method of killing a fish
when you keep any kind of animal you have to put your own squeamishness aside and do what is best for the animal. If cutting the head off is the quickest way then that is the most humane way.
I breed poultry and occasionally have to kill a bird. I am by nature a gentle person and an animal lover yet I will calmy and quickly decapitate a sick bird so that there is no fear and no pain and instant death. I don't LIKE doing it but I don't feel bad about it because I know I have done what is best for it. Same when I have to have a cat or dog put to sleep. I stay with them, hold them and talk calmly to them while they are being put to sleep. Then when they are gone I can weep and cry. My own feelings are unimportant. The wellbeing of the animals is my primary concern. You CAN do it, you just need to use your willpower and think of the animal before yourself.
For you it is unpleasant for a second, but afterwards you are satisfied with the knowledge that you did what was needed and prevented suffering. Rather than let it die slowly then beat yourself up for days afterwards with guilt, knowing that you should have been braver.
