Sounds odd question but I have bought Echinodorus Ozelot, Windelow fern and Nymphaea lotus zenkeri
They're tropica plants from my LFS
I have attached the fern to a pieceof bogwood using string, how long does it usually take to grip

The lotus I have taken the sponge off and took it out the pot and planted in the sand

The Ozelot I have left in the pot it came in, should I take this out and plant it, the only problem is it would need about 4 inch of substrate to cover it

cheers Simon

You can use super glue to glue the Fern down however it may be awkward if you've already soaked the log. However I managed to do it with the log wet I just dabbed as much moisture off the spot. Same can be done with the Windelov one if you want.

With the Ozelot trim the black plastic pot off and then remove as much of the rockwool as possible and then I would recommend trimming the roots a little. The roots don't have to go straight down however I've found whenever I've got tropica ones they're really thick and tough roots. My Echino Rubin was very similar and I got that from Andys, roots were about 2 inches long and super thick, a good trimming and planting it's been great ever since. Probably put out about 11 leaves in a month or two.

Planting the lotus I'm not sure I did have one but it in the condition I got it was very fragile and whilst soaking it room temp water it fell apart haha. Feel like I've missed out heavily, they look fantastic.

hi, i'm guessing that the lotus was just a bulb with no leaves? if so, just push it into the substrate so it is about half covered. :good:

Alright matey, nice to see you in here.

I have attached the fern to a pieceof bogwood using string, how long does it usually take to grip

It won't grip, it's not like an anubias which will get a bit of grip. We'll tend to use superglue now, as it'll last a fair while and you can't see it.

The lotus I have taken the sponge off and took it out the pot and planted in the sand

Keep a half to a third of the bulb above the substrate as this is the main energy source for the lily.

The Ozelot I have left in the pot it came in, should I take this out and plant it, the only problem is it would need about 4 inch of substrate to cover it

Take it out, give the roots a good trim, and plant, it shouldn't need 4" after you've trimmed the roots.

good luck mate and stick some photos up!

edit, i was a bit late as i was typing whilst watch celebrity come dine with me. lol

I was made to watch X factor (even though i don't agree with the whole thing) and she'd just gone to bed, so come dine with me came on lol.

cheers for the tips will sort them tomorrow night as I'm going to see Kings of leon tonight!!

JoshI got these from Andys as well

The lotis is a bulb and about 10 leaves about 8 inches long :good:

I will probably be going down today or tomorrow to get my new bulbs and will no doubt pick up another plant or two. The store is annoying I have new ideas every time I go in. Can't wait to see what he does with the massive display tank in the wall.

You can always give me some of your windelov fern when it gets out of control! :hey:

ha ha will do mate
they have put the polystyrene backing in the big display tank now. They;re going to have discus etc in it looking forward to it myself.

My lightings quite bright in my tank but I want to make a decent go of these plants. what should I be adding to the water that won't harm the discus?
