So i have a 20 gallon tropical tank.
I had 5 mollies, they have died through the passed month though so my last black molly is still alive. But he looks lost. Always looking for his friends. He looks sad and not healthy and goes on his side. I tried different medicines but nothings helping.

I dont want him to suffer so i think for my second time, i need to put him down. Give him over to God so he can swim in gods beautiful lakes.

I was wondering if Canola oil was a peaceful way? Doesnt it pass them out?

I heard clove oil , but then i've read posts that the fish take a while to die.
I prefer the bag and brick method. Place the fish in a bag and smash a brick down on it. Or cut off its head :good:
I think they're more humane than oils

if he's just lonely try him with some friends. why did your other fish die?

Clove oil puts the fish to sleep almost instantaneously, if you use the right amount. It is the only way that is generally considered humane by vets and other experts. Beheading, or 'bricking' can be humane if you're sure of doing it right first time. If, like me, you tend to get 'the shakes', then you could case the fish a lot of unnecessary pain :/

The lethal dose is 30 drops per litre; you isolate the fish, shake up the oil to an emulsion, and trickle that into the container with the fish in.

You should definitely find out why so many of your fish are getting sick and dying hough; that's not normal. How big is your tank, how long has it been set up, what are your water test results and was the tank cycled? When did you last water change?

I decided im not going to do it. I dont have the heart. My other mollies die from pregnancy.

Mollies don't just 'die from pregnancy' though; that would be a very, very rare occurrence...

True. I'm not going to continue with Mollies. Beautiful fish...but dont like the personality very much. I am still interested to find out how they died though.

They 'died from pregnancy'? I'm going to guess they got really fat and died, yes? IMO they probably had dropsy - did their scales stick out, like a pine cone?

If it looked like that ^ Then it was dropsy

Hi, read your post with interest. it is not an easy thing to despatch your fish for the first time, but sadly it is a part of responsible fishkeeping and something that has to be done. i favour a very quick approach, my chosen method is catching the fish in a net and then swiftly flicking the net against a hard surface. A tried and tested method for small fish. If your mollies are sickening too often, try some tonic salt at the rate of 1 teaspoon per gallon as mollies can tend to do poorly in freshwater. Hope that is helpful

I would try saving him instead, yea there goes that idiot that favors livebearers again.
Mollies almost always will respond well to water that has lots of minerals in it, even if they seem to be on their last legs. One way to get there is to use some sea salt in their water but if they are kept with other fish a simple addition of the chemicals to treat "shimmy" will do wonders. Those chemicals basically will raise your tank's mineral content but in a way that has minimal, not none, impact on other fish.
If you have a place to separate the molly, just add a tablespoon of sea salt for each gallon of water and watch that guy recover almost instantly. Mollies are amazingly tough when they are given suitable water.

Surely if he is not ill then it would be wrong to kill him? If he is pinning then buy him some new friends.
