ok so ive put 2 lettuce leaves in a tub of water at the windowsill,
how long do i leave it for until i can feed the infusoria??
what do i drain it with to get rid of the rotton veg??

You've taken up several days of some of the best fish brains on this forum with regard to your dying fish, and then seem to have totally disregarded their advise. Now you are getting impatient because no-one replies to some weird lettuce soup experiment.

boil water let it cool i find banana skins work for me add a drop of water from one of your tanks
and place on a window sill in the sun light 5 to 10 days you should see a swarm or a cloud near the top
of the water this is what you feed your fish on syphon off as you need it

im sorry im just getting stressed as everything is goin g wrong at the moment.
and why im bumping it is because i am looking for an answer as my eggs will hatch in a couple of days! this is my first time actually breeding. If you do bump a post you would only bump your own, you aint gonna bump someone elses that dont make sense!!

i heard banana skins fungus a bit!!! is this true??



no it doesnt it is meant for moving your post up to the top of page so people will see it better as when it is half down the page people dont notice it as much!

no it doesn't it is meant for moving your post up to the top of page so people will see it better as when it is half down the page people dont notice it as much!

why don't you buy some liqafry i cant remember which one it is now whether it one for livebeares and two for egg layers
it would save all the fuss and carry on
and if you need to you can use it to start a culture of infusoria you can also buy bosmiden which is frozen and you can feed fry on that

Firstly it would be handy to know what babies (what species of fish). They may not need infusoria as a first food. If the fry are large enough to take newly hatched brineshrimp and microworm then there is no real need for infusoria.
I myself use dried milk powder for infusoria. (idiot-proof)
I use plastic goldfish bowls (cruel for goldfish IMO but fine for my use)
Two of these can supply all the infusoria I need.
A constant temperature of 74'F the setup should produce infusorians within 4 days. at lower temperature I find the culture takes longer to get going.
So how do I go about culturing Infusoria
Place about 1500ml of boiled water that has been left to cool, and place about half a teaspoon full of fresh powdered milk into the water, (the water will go cloudy) If kept at the recommended temperature the water will clear in about four days and with a small handheld magnifying glass you should be able to see a dust like cloud of small particles just below the water level, the cloud will move as one around the tank.
After this I set up my second culture the same method as before. This way I have a continous supply to hand. From the time the water clears the culture will last for about a week before it starts to go downhill. You can revive it somewhat by adding just a quarter teaspoon of the powdered milk. After a period of time the culture will go off and start to smell, so its time to set up a new one and discard the old.
Do not go over the amounts of dried milk as you will just end up with a smelly soup, no good for feeding fry.
Feed in small drops with an eyedropper, do not overfeed. Keep the fry receptical clean and perform small regular waterchanges.
I hope this was of some help to both you and fellow forum members on a failsafe way to culture Infusoria.
