Well today i filled up the tank. Everything looks like its working well.

Only problems i have is the weir combe need more/bigger slots so will have to buy a proper one.

The main problem (the one i created this thread for) is the noise the water is making going into the sump.

How do you stop the splashing? The durso seems to be working fine not making any gurglng noises but where the water goes from the pipe to the tank is making a horrible crashing water sound. There is alot of air coming out from the sump inlet though which i thought was strange.

What could be the cause and how could i prevent it?

The sump inlet has about 3000 litres per hour though it (eheim 2000 compact+ only turned alf on and the eheim 1260 on almost full)
thanks
chris

ive put my inlets under the water line in the sump that quietens it down dramatically
" but where the water goes from the pipe to the tank is making a horrible crashing water sound" do you mean the tank end of the stand pipe to the sump ?

you will get air anyway mate its just the way the water goes down the pipe

here is my sump inlet the back inlet has another bit of pipe on the end now

the pipe coming off the skimmer has got coarse filter sponge around it now that has made a major sound differance too

it the sump end. My pipe is under the water by a good 2 inch (it was about 1 inch above but it changed the pipe)

Think i might have to drill one of the elbows to allow air out and have abit of pipe there to realease the air.

id have the bit of pipe in the sump under water.

it is about 2 inch under.

Try adding a piece of airline tubing and a valve. You need to reduce the amount of air going down the tube.

Ok will try now. thanks

is this picture good enough? ignore the bit the last bit of pipe as its now longer and goes under the water.

Try the airline in the top of the Durso. You can adjust the air going down into the tube with the water. My guess is that the hole in the top of the Durso is a bit too big.

The airline needs to go down into the Durso by about 3", I tighten the valve off and slowly loosen until you have a constant level in the overflow chamber. At this point, the durso and water going into the sump should quieten dramatically.

My pipe is about 2" into the water.

yeah that might work mate

ive just shoved some sponge up it d it seems abit better so im thinking about putting a tap on like you to only allow water though and stop the air

lol i was going to do that but it would slow the flow rate down too much for my setup but now it is all under water its no too bad

thses guys have some good ideas and they probably work too as they already have it or tried it on theirs
