Just wanted to know the best way to introduce new fish to a new tank?

what techniques do you all use?

I float the bag on in the tank to get the tempratures the same. Adding 3 cap fulls (i can't remember what ml the cap holds) every 10-15min.

I'd also like to know how others do it :good:

Cap fulls of what :hey: lol

I float for 20 min, then use a std turkey baster to take 1 squirt out of the bag then 2 back in of tank water, i repeat this about 5-10 times before letting the fish loose

Stole my line, Al!

I use Al's method, but be sure you don't squirt the water taken out of the bag into your tank. Just put it down the drain. And when it's time to get the fish in the tank, I net them and put them in so I don't introduce any water from the LFS or wherever you got them.

I got all my fish from the same LFS which is just down my road, the water tests exactly the same as my tank so I just drop them straight in, water and all. Never had a problem.

Your situation is highly unusual, then. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone!

but you're test kit wont tell you if theres a disease or illness in the water.

theres is simply no reason to put somebody elses water in your tank, its just adding another potential problem that has no need to be there. atually, the only time i would do it is if i was adding a fish that would get caught in a net.

for the record, i just put the bag in the tank, leave it for some time, dunno how long, then net the fish out and put it in the tank. bag of shop water down the sink.

But you should be adding some of your own tank water in the bag to acclimate them to not only the water temp, but also your pH and water hardness.

I place the fish and contents into a container and then drip acclimatise with clamped airline for an hour, I then net the fish and place them into the tank.

ive never lost a fish because of how i add them to the tank. neither has my mate whos been keeping fish and adding them the same way for about 8 years, without access to a forum or internet help, he has been 'winging it' since his first tank. sometimes too much knowledge is a bad thing. reading forums can make you worry about things you didnt even know existed, and do things you need not bother with, just because 'the forum' todl you to.the way he looks after fish would raise a lot of eyebrows on here, yet he has one of the healthiest, most vibrant tanks ive ever seen. im at a sort of halfway house, he got me into fish, i started keeping them like he does. i found the forum, have altered some of my thinking, mostly on feeding and stocking, but clearly i still do some things that raise eyebrows. im not saying the forum is rubbish, not at all its great, but its not the be all and end all. im sure even this post will annoy some people, but thats the internet for you.

i'll take hard physical evidence i can see and touch over the writing of total strangers on the internet anyday.

If the water parameters are similar then there's no need to acclimatise really, maybe just a temperature match of 5-10 minutes, but most don't know the water parameters of their local fish supplier, so it is always advisable to some form chemical acclimatisation.

Moochy: And well you should. Very few on the forum claim they have the do-all end-all advice on any particular subject. As you can see from just this post, lots of us introduce fish differently. I've never lost a fish from the way I introduce them either. But there have been instances of fish dying quite some time after the fact I believe because of the conditions I got them from, and had I just dropped them in my tank at home I believe my other fish may have been affected.

I'd actually like to hear how your mate does things. Always good to hear/see new perspectives!
