Yesterday I purchased a small plec algae eater (about the size of my pinky) for my aquarium and I did not notice his fins were injured until I a few mintues ago. Part of his fins actually seems to be missing and some just appear torn. I have a plec around 10 inches that I raised from about the size this new one is so I know how their fins should look. The new plec is in an aquarium with 2 Dwarf gourmari but they do not appear to be being aggressive with him. What is a good (try to be price effective if possible) to help my new Plec. He seems to be able to swim fairly well so I do not think he is going to die but I want to heal him. I can attempt to get pictures if yall think I should

Nevermind, He was on the side of the glass and just started drifting downward (not swimming) like he was out of it and landed on his side at the bottom of the aquarium and stayed on his side until I bothered him. I thought he may had died. What could be wrong with him?

Sounds like the way that 6 of my fish recently died. I posted in the emergency help section but never got any response beyond some info about the mini cycle my tank was in. I had a hard time believing that a little ammonia spike followed by a nitrite spike killed all but one fish in a matter of 5 days considering all the water changes and useing Prime to detox the nitrogen.

He's probably stressed. When my loach get stressed they'll act that way. I would leave the lights out all night and keep an eye on him real good tomorrow. Do water changes often and maybe treat with a little melafix. I use melafix occasionally like a neosporn when my fish have nipped fins or are missing a few scales. Some people say bad things about it but I've had decent luck with it. It's not as strong as an antibiotic. It's extracted from tea leaves.

I will pick some of it up tomorrow. I have the lights on for roughly 10 hours a day (Around Noon to 10pm) I just cant believe a fish at Petsmart was in this bad condition. They usually take care of their fish pretty well. (atleast at mine)

I do not think this is my problem as my other 2 fish appear to be fine but I will test the water to be certain.

Just wanted to update this, I found the little plec dead when I woke up this morning. I wanted to save him =(
