Hi
I have a Juwel 60 bought 2nd hand and the light was working but then stopped, I bought a new tube, same type 'arcadia' but no joy so assume I need to change something else but can't see how you get into the other bit of the lid. Fortunately the tank had already been adapted to carry an extra tube which has a seperate ballast unit so i am ok for now but would like to get it back to full working order before I buy some new plants.
Any one got one of those and know what to do?

You just prise the plastic flap on top of the lid off, this covers the ballast, its glued on but will come off easy enough, a knife, screwdriver, something like that will do it easy. You will probably need to replace the whole ballast i dont think there is much else you can do once they stop working. Probably cheaper to buy a totally different ballast than replace the origional Juwel one.

Thanks for these suggestions
I did assume I could get to it under that second flap but when it proved resistant to opening I got worried about breaking it.

Generally its the starter that fails, so I would recommend replacing that first. Ballasts are pretty sturdy (esp the good old iron ones). You'll find the starter in the same enclosure as the ballast.

Thanks Dubby
will try that first. Worst case scenario is 2 trips to the LFS which come to think of it would be great!
