What and how do you feet bettas? I put some flake food on top and he just ignores it? I only put him in yesterday does this make a difference?

Oh, and from now on im calling him Mr Betta

I seriously doubt that you will get a betta to take flake food. Most betta people agree that the best food to use is Hikari Betta Bio gold. It's really expensive, but with only one betta to feed, a packet of the stuff would last ages. A packet of it lasted me six months with six bettas. (I have more bettas now...) If that's too dear, you can use the smallest size Hikari pellets for carnivorous cichlids. TBH buying a packet of those is overkill for a single betta... you'd last yourself every betta you had in your life if you only kept one at a time.

You should supplementary feed a bit of other stuff as well. The odd pea is good to clean them out, and they LOVE frozen bloodworm. You shouldn't feed them too much freeze dried food because they have sensitive digestive systems and it's not difficult to bung up a betta. Don't overfeed them or you end up with this problem.

Ok, well ive got tons of bloodworm so im fine there :p

I'm not sure where in Edinburgh you are based but Aquacadabra on Lower London Rd has a good selection of frozen foods for bettas.

My betta also enjoys peas and brocolli.

wow! your betta is a good little guy eating his greens, and there meant to be canivores mine wont even touch peas

when you feed betta peas? do you boil them first? so they sink or is floating them ok?

also is freeze dreid brine shrimp ok to feed them too?

All my guys will eat most things.

I got some Betta Pellets from modaz via eBay. They are the Aqua One pellets which are tiny compared to the Hikari.

All of the boys except Imhotep will eat the Hikari Gold, the girls love them too. Imhotep prefers the Aqua One stuff.

However, they all love Tetra Betta Flakes - small flakes, almost like a coarse powder.

Once a fortnight I feed live brine shrimp or bloodworm.

Hi, loubega,
some people cook peas, others don't - frozen ones most typically fed are, with any luck, a bit mushy, which works for my fish, anyway.
Personally, I try squashing them in my fingers and nip off tiny, bite-sized bits with a thumbnail and flick them into the water - or try, as after a few tanks, the pea bits tend to start sticking to the hands, and I get a fair bit on the ceiling, lol.
(I HATE pea-feed day, having hand problems - but my bettas and some of the other fish love it, so it balances out VERY heavily weighted on the good side.)
Several bits about the size of your betta's eye would be good.
And the bits I put in tend to sink, athough they don't tend to get very far down before being snapped up, lol.
Whole peas tend to be too big for a betta to eat, and while some apparently manage, I don't see how...
I believe most of us feed peas weekly, to help clean their systems out, as well as because they're a favorite food of many bettas.
Freeze-dried shrimp would probably be relished, although, as you likely know, too many dried foods can cause bunged-up bettas, so frozen shrimp, bloodworms and other such delicacies are more often fed.
But the more variety fed, within reason, the better.

I steam the peas.

I use heavily filtered water as well.

I then skin the pea, crush it and drop it in. The wee guy loves the peas, I don't think he gets as excited about any other type of food
