Careful that I don't lose the filter bacteria in the media in my Aqua Clear HOB filters, I just swish the media around a bit in a bucket of tank water. When I put it back, and turn the filter back on, a cloud of yuck pours into the tank.

Should I rinse out the media more, or is there a trick to prevent that cloud of yuck?

(The media is sponge, zeolite, and Biomax)

You might have a residue at the bottom of the filter that is disturbed by it refilling/being turned back on.

youve jus loosened everything up when you cleaned it.

aslong as it clears again then its fine.

i guess maybe washing it once then getting more water and using that to rinse it again might help but washing it too much cant be good.

Thanks for the help and reassurance, Jeewhizz and SamUK. The tank does clear up soon afterwards, so I won't worry about it now.
