How To Change Sand

Hi!

I've had my tank set up for about 3 months now with 1 betta and 2 ghost shrimp (the shrimp have since died however)

I originally put a light coloured sand in the tank but it always looks dirty and I want to change to a darker coloured sand.

Any advice on how to do this? As I don't really have the facilities to take the betta out of the tank.

just use a length of garden hose and siphon it out ....

Putting new in there is a different story, however. Why can't you move the betta into a pitcher or bucket for the few hours it will take you to swap out the sand?
