Evening all, got home from work this evening to find my tank had a number of new inhabitants. About 2 week ago i found two fry who were about 4mm long now ive found around 10-12 more but these are really tiny and really hard to catch with a net i think there coming from one of my platies.

Help as my other fish are now aware of them and are starting to chase them :(

A turkey baster in your best bet :good:

They are awkward to catch with a net

Otherwise last resort maybe use the hose off your gravel cleaner and suck them into a container.

You could also try using a styrofoam cup. It depends on how little the fry are. The really tiny ones can't really swim away so they kind of just get sucked into the cup. The bigger ones will definitely dodge you as quickly as they can.

Try the 2 nets technique or alternatively move the adults to another tank.

I use tiny yogurt pots for catching surface swimming fry. If fry are mainly near the bottom, turkey baster is the best option.

Carefully & slowly move the net under the baby fish- it will always be able to swim quicker than you will be able to move the net, so the trick is to lure it into a false sense of security by slowly moving the net towards & up undernief it. Then when the baby fish is right above the net, tap the side of the tank so it swims right into the centre of it & lift the net up.

Another trick: If you put fake floating plants in the tank the fry will instinctively hide in them. If you get a large net and slowly move it up under the floating plant, you can net the plant up with all the fry inside ^_^v .

well ive found 8 fry 5 were in the tank and 3 in my filter. two that came from the filter were quite large so im guessing they have been in there a while so now i have 11 altogether, just a little worried about putting the tiny ones in the spare tank with the larger fry
