I transfered my 9 fry from a one gallon tank (with undergravel filter) to a ten gallon tank (with external 3 stage filter) yesterday evening. Today I noticed that 5 of the fry were sucked up by the filter. Is there something I can do to the filter intake tube to stop fry from being sucked in?

do what i did and get some ladies tights to go over the pipe, (( thin))-- i dont know much about tights, but ask the person in the shop for the thin ones

I have a fluval 2 in a 6 gallon tank, will this suck up my guppy fry? (havent addded them yet)

Yep!
I second the ladies tights covering the suction side.

I got a chunk of filter media foam, cut a hole out of the middle but only half way through and pushed it over the suction tube. It works like a dream in my fry tank. (you may just be able to see it in my sig)

I've found that the piece of sponge works better than tights or screening. Tights or screening plug more easily, and don't diffuse the flow as well as a sponge. The sponge adds to your bio filtration by providing more surface area for nitrifying bacteria, and captures small particles of food that the fry will often snack on between feedings.

Sponge pre-filters are an old discus breeding trick.

Would'nt this make the filter less effective as it wont be able to suck larger solids up?

Also, does anyone own a Fluval 2? I'm pretty ignorant and dont know where i should be covering with the tights

thanks

on the fluval 2 the vents around the bottom of the filter is where you need to be covering

clever cloggs lol :)

and dont buy fishnet tights lol

make sure you secure the tights by tying them tightly around the neck of the filter, and you will need to take a little water out of the tank everyday to rinse all the dirt off them,
just try it and sit by the tank and see what happens, maybe you will have another ,better idea while watching it :)
