Allright lads.

Basically I got my Eheim Classic 250 through the post today (brand new).

After taking it apart (its the filter sponge version) it only has 1 blue sponge, 1 white and 1 carbon...... is this ok, or do I need more?

Also, how the hell do I set the thing up? The manual is incredibly confusing and makes no sense; it almost feels like the packs come with only a few items #63###.

Maybe im not good at manuals, but does anyone have a more "down to earth" description on how to set one of these nightmares up?

Thanks for your time.

I found the eheim picture manual that came with the 2075 initially very confusing however if you stick with it on the third or fourth reading it started to make sense (not least as it appeared that they'd actually done some of it for me so that I didn't actually have to start at 1!).
I suspect that you should put the carbon filter on the shelf for when you actually need to remove meds from the water (it's function).
Good luck
Miles

by 250 do you mean 2213? My 2213 box had 250 on it.

I havent set mine up yet and id really appreciate some healp aswell! I get the actual filter bit, however i do not understand how to fix all the taps etc on, or the attachments!

Yes 2213 - I'm stumped when it comes to attaching the pipes myself. Theres only one pipe - how is it used for both the intake and outtake respectively??

How long is the pipe? Presumably you cut it in half, to fit the pipes, place the ends in hot water for about 30 seconds, then push them over the inlet and outlet pipes, then screw the cap so it secures the pipe in place, then secure the opposite ends to the inlet and outlet respectively, then place the inlet pipe into its desired position, whilst putting the filter in its final place, suck on the outlet until the canister begins to fill and aim the outlet pipe into a bucket, when water beings to flow out of the outlet pipe place it in the tank and switch on.

i recently got a 2213. i hope you got the one that includes all the taps and media ?

the length of hose is supposed to be cut to length. put the filter where you want it to be, position the hard plastic 'hook' pipes that go into the tank where you want them, then cut the green hose to fit from the end of the hard pipe to the filter. the longer plastic pipe witht he 'U' at the end is where the water gets sucked up. the longer side is supposed* to be in the water, with the little cage thing over the end. then you want green hose from the short side of that plastic pipe to the bottom inlet hole at the base of the filter.

do the same with the outlet plastic pipe, obviously the shorter 'hooked' end goes into the tank. cut the hose to length so it goes in the top of the filter. water is sucked up from the bottom of the filter, helps you understand how to conenct the pipes. dirty water into the bottom and clean water from the top.

if you have the taps, once you have cut the hose to length each side of the hose is cut again. i cut mine so that the taps are about 6 inches from the filter inlet/outlet holes. you put then put a pair of taps into the gap youve made, one on each end. the idea of the taps is that you can use the taps to cut the water supply to and from the filter, so you can remove it for cleaning while the taps stop water going everywhere.

a picture speak a thousand words though :

unfiltered water comes in from the left, filtered water up and out of the top. each side of the tap connection has its own tap, so all you do is switch off the power, close the 4 taps, unscrew the connector collar in the middle, and remove the filter and its side of the hose. the tap keeps water in the filter, and also in the hose from the tank.

the little grey collars on the taps where the hose goes into them are on a thread and screw over the hose, trapping it tighly in the housing of the tap.

No my model came without taps.

But I went to my LFS and got my hands on some biomech/mech and slapped that in - apparently that is far better for the tank.

Also learned how to install (from the LFS); fit the pipes on (need a bit of force for this) to the firmer plastic outlet/inlets

Measure the distance you need for the inlet pipe to the filter and vice versa, then cut the softer long pipe in half or whatever to fit your requirements.

Had to get aquarium water in my mouth when priming ¬_¬

But apart from that everything seems to be working fine now.

Now to get an airator and I'm sorted! =)

PS - anybody know of any half decent quiet air pumps?
