Hi guys

I  have a 40 gallon tank(with 3 live plants) with 5 mollies,2 swordtails,5 cardinal tetras,5 x-ray fish,2 golden loaches,1 upside down  catfish.
I recently bought a siamese fighting fish(male) and i have put him in the tank. However i am curious if this is a suitable set up and i am after a bit of advice.
Thanks

I wouldn't put a Betta in with mollies & swordtail, the likelihood is they'll nip his fins & bully him, especially the swordtail

The mollies? there always so peaceful
At the moment he seems to be ok and dosent seem to be stressed but should i maybe move him to a diffrent tank?

It depends on the betta.  My LFS has  betta in almost every tank (the ones with smaller fish of course). I would think the mollies would probably bully him. Just watch closely, especially after you turn off the lights

When i bought my betta he was in a tak with at leats ten barbs so i thought he would be alright and they said he would

tank seems sutablie i agree it depends on the betta, as your tank cycled?

yh i have had the tank for 3 months and i got the betta on thursday

just remeber the 2 to 1 female to male ratio in livebearers(mollies, swordtails, guppies, platies etc) to stop harrasment.

Let us know how he does in here, it's always interesting to see how these things pan out :)

At the minate i have 4 female mollies and 1 male mollie and 1 male and 1 female swordtail.
the betta has taken over one corner of the tank and dosent move from that area

Bettas with nippers and/or active fish is very risky.

"Golden Loaches" as is Weather Loach colour variation? Tank is too small for them (they quickly reach ~15cm within a year and then continue to grow at a slower pace) and like many loaches do far better in 8+ numbers (which in the instance of Weather Loaches is a large bioload).

"Upside Down Catfish" as in Synodontis nigriventris (very social, needs a group just like corydoras) or the more fiesty and larger Synodontis nigrita/euptera?

i caught 2 of the mollies nipping his fins and he is now hiding inside one of the plants!
should i move him to a diffrent tank?

Move the Betta as the mollies will continue to nip him & he's obviously stressed if he's hiding

I cant get another tank up and running for at least another 2 weeks for the betta and its unfair to leave him in there but i dont want to return him. any ideas?

Can you get a divider? That would help until you can get another tank ready
