I called so many places around where I live and cant find any. One lfs the owner was nice enough to try to get some at a fish auction, and call places to get some. He said he call me if he can get any. Is there some sort of season that they come in usually, or are they just rare?

have you tried looking for a breeder online? another way to do it would be to contact MCA( Michigan Cichlid Association) and see if they know of any new world cichlid breeders in the area around you, however I live in the UP and I use mail order exclusivly with getting my cichlids so another open option would be to look around online.

I couldn't find them in a town of 150,000! I accidentally found a woman an hour away who had started breeding hers and would sell me some. Breeders and Fish Swaps would be the way to go. AquaBid.com often has them up for bid. A guy named ApistoDave (David Soares) My Webpage often has them listed at less than he sells them on his website (that has a min. purchase amount); and man, are they beautiful! Do some hunting online and you might find some breeders. I have other links if you'd like them.

Edit: I'm not sure why they aren't found too much around here, but I really don't think they are considered "rare". I am, however, planning on introducing them to my community. :hey:

I wish I lived in your community  , I've been looking for females since last June or July .

I had one great online experience , and real bad one , so if you go online get references if you can .

Well Ive check the whole metro detroit area which is a population of roughly 3 million. MCA? How can I contact them? Any breeders on this fourm that want to sell some cockatoos to me?

You could see if they have a website , and have a contact through that .

Try asking at lfss about the M.C.A ,and if they know how to contact them .

Look around for local aquarium societies as well , they may have a breeder as a member , or someone who can get in contact with M.C.A .

OMFG The MCA has its main meeting a half mile form where I live. I found it kinda creepy. I plan to go there and get some info. It blows my mind the answer is so close, just a walk to the Italian cultural center.

It's always in the last place you look isn't it  Have you read my other posts, Lucky? About my breeder and her male/female ratios? If you haven't here it is: 1 male and 134 females. PH of the water is too high in our area. I told her this, but she insists that temp. is the major factor. IMO, her results tell the truth: pH!

Good luck with the MCA, they should be able to help you out a GREAT DEAL!

i know nothing about these fish mentioned, but 1 to 134 seems hard to do in an aquarium. is that a mistype or is it actually 1 to 134? I know quite a few human males that would LOVE that ratio!

They seem preety rare in the states...how much are they?

In Australia I find them everywhere, there about $12 and I sell my fry to shops for $5...I expect there more expensive in the states?

about $15 near me , but there seems to be more males available :( .

Wow there more expensive in the states etc... ohh well

at least you guys don't have L046's for $1000 each

No, not a mis-type. Because of the breeder's pH, the fry ratio was 1 male to 134 females. It was also accomplished in more than one "batch" of eggs. The sex of cockatoo fry is determined in the first 3 weeks. Hence why I am using RO water to lower my pH!

I bought 1 adult male and 3 sexable juvenile females for $40, and that was quite a deal. Mostly because she was trying to clear out some space, and for a few other reasons decided to cut me a deal. Spent way less than if I would've order the same online. I would have spent at least $30 in shipping.
