How old is this fish?
When I found it in the tank it was already orange in colour.

Another question. Obviously it would get eatten if placed in with the adult fish. But what if I put it with the 4wk old platy's ? Or should I just leave it in the goldfish bowl until it can be transfered?

THANKS!

Here's a few photo's.
I put my glasses in front of baby to give an idea of size.

It looks large enough to not be eaten by adult platies.

A bowl is no place of any fish (arguably bettas are an exception). If you are going to be raising fry you should have a second tank setup for them. Ideally it is crammed full of live plants.

Did you find it in the tank with the adults? If so it was obviously living with them already, the one out of the brood that was smart enough to stay out of sight of the adults until it was large enough to not be eaten (probably when you found it). Most likely its brothers and sisters were too dumb to stay out of sight (natural selection at work).

We bought the fish and put them in a brand new tank (no fish prior).
2.5 mos later I found a tiny fish.

I had no where to put it at the time. As we JUST started fish. It was a surprise!

Looks to be a few months old. Maybe two months? About the same size if not a little bigger than my two month juvies.

I don't like it being in the fish bowl. Just seems unfair. Yet I'm concerned it'll eat the babies (4wks today) if I put in the breeder. Yet putting with the others I'm worried it'' be eatten or sucked up the filter. I've put an add out for a small tank on a used site to put babies ...

It depends on the species. Normally a breeder is going to wait till the fish is at a size thats in demand to sell it. Like a Guppy could take a few months to get an inch. But a Datnoid could take a year to get 4 inches. So it all depends on species and demand in size. No LFS is going to want a fish that sales at 4 inches and the breeder only has a 1" baby. Both my goldfish were at least 15 years old but recently one died unexpectedly and then the other went on for about 6 months longer. I know it's silly but the remaining fish seemed quite sad when it was alone and I think it lost the will to live.

I think it is a Red Wag Platy but Im not sure about how much they grow and how fast.

I'm debating on moving her to the big tank. She chases the babies a bit. But I'm nervous as I have a rather agressive male mickey in the tank. Torments this ones mother!

Looks about 2-3 mos. To me. What's your male-female ratio? I've got some 4 week old fry and they are about 1/3-1/2 inch and one 6 week (I'm guessing) about 2/3 inches.

Mine all but 3 I found in my tank have Mickey mouse dad and red platy mom. Not sure which mm was the daddy though. Then 3 I found in tank 2 are gray, definitely same species but idk what they are. And a brown one.

1male : 3 female

Oh interesting !!!
We bought a female lyretail dalmation to replace a female dalmation and she arrived pregnant. We had no idea! She wasn't huge at all. Looked normal. Anyways by the time we realized (my daughter told me) we saved 3 of the 10 she said was in the tank. Sadley 2 white ones never made it passed 2days but the darker one is thriving with the platy fry. Same size as the 6wk old platy fry. It's only 1wk today

That's cool. I have a preggo marble Molly still waiting for her to drop :hyper: and a preggo sunburst platy. I wanna save the Molly fry but it's survival of the fittest with the sunburst. Already got too many orange fry.
