I have four guppy females in my tank (and two males). The other week one of them may have given birth, as she suddenly got a lot thinner and the gravid spot went away for a day.

This morning, before work, I saw one guppy fry. He/she was around a centimeter, and ducked back into heavy plant growth before I could discern anything more. Seemed almost large enough not to fit into the mouth of the other fish in the tank, so hopefully I'll be seeing some more of him/her. Wonder if any siblings survived.

FYI, the tank is 20 gallons and has guppies, neons, corys, dwarf african frogs, cherry shrimp, and numerous snails. It sadly also recently had hydra introduced. I have no doubt that something or the other munched on many of the babies, but I don't have the space for a large guppy population, nor the lack of heart needed to feed castoffs to my bigger tank, so I think survival of the fittest is the best.

So yeah. Any estimates?

i watched one of my guppies giving birth yesterday, didn't even get a chance to get my fry tank up and running! i have about twenty fry all about 7-8mm. my guess is that your fry isn't too old at all.

the fry wont survive the adf srry. if it does the corys will try to eat it and the stress of avoding the corys usauly kill them.

just to add 3 days ago i had 17 guppie fry and yesterdy i had 23 platy fry and my guess is that it is prob a good week old.

Well, no one munches on the cherry shrimp, which are only slightly larger than this fry in many cases.

Of course, they have a protective exoskeleton. I dunno.

I just thought I would add the fry is out and about and acting fairly fearlessly. None of the fish in the tank seem to bother her. She ate her first bit of flake today...even though she's still teeny, I think she's going to make it.
