I have four guppy females in my tank (and two males). The other week one of them may have given birth, as she suddenly got a lot thinner and the gravid spot went away for a day.
This morning, before work, I saw one guppy fry. He/she was around a centimeter, and ducked back into heavy plant growth before I could discern anything more. Seemed almost large enough not to fit into the mouth of the other fish in the tank, so hopefully I'll be seeing some more of him/her. Wonder if any siblings survived.
FYI, the tank is 20 gallons and has guppies, neons, corys, dwarf african frogs, cherry shrimp, and numerous snails. It sadly also recently had hydra introduced. I have no doubt that something or the other munched on many of the babies, but I don't have the space for a large guppy population, nor the lack of heart needed to feed castoffs to my bigger tank, so I think survival of the fittest is the best.
So yeah. Any estimates?
