What i mean by clean: i mean do a gravel vac, clean rocks, fake plants, sides of glass? ect....

I gravel vac, at every water change, and clean glass and plants as needed, and I do a water change twice a week, so where's the more then 1 time a week option?

my 5ft tank gets cleaned 4 times a week to keep the discus happy :D

My 4ft gets done once every two weeks.... stock is;- angels...kribs....bristlenoses...cories :D

Not a fake plant in sight :p

I like to do mine weekly because I just find it is easier to remember when I did it last. I used to do it every 2-3 weeks, but I forgot one time that I hadnt done it, and it didnt get done for like 5-6 weeks. You should have seen the state of it. So now I do it weekly, and it isnt that dirty so I only have to do a small cleaning. Plus my small tank just gets waaaaay too much algae if I wait too long. So by doing it weekly I can just give it a quick wipe with my magnetic brush and its no sweat.

I generally gravel vac and water change 15-20% on a weekly basis.
Every month or so I clean the tubes to the filter and rinse out the filter media in tank water.
I clean the glass and prune the plants as i see fit, probably every 1-2 weeks as needed, sometimes longer.
I change the filter media as needed.

:)

How often should you clean the media? :dunno: mine gets really gungy after just a couple of weeks. Tanks still young though

Clean the media when you notice the flow slowing down. Do it only enough to get the gunk off and only in tank water and you'll be grand.

:)

how about when it really really needs doing and it can't wait any longer?

Im afraid thats what I do. It tends to be once a month or every two months but Ive not lost any fish and they are all healthy. but I only feed them once every two days so there aint that much mess.

I do a gravel vac every week with a water change, clean the rocks every month or so. The glass gets scraped for algea every month, and the plants pruned every 1-2 weeks.

I clean my tanks weekly. That includes Vacs, water changes every week about 30-40% and clean the algea on the glass with the Magnet brush!!. I just find it easy to do it every week so the tanks arent all that dirty. So its much easier than doing one big one every month or so!

Sunday night is tank inspection night (although we watch them all week  ).

On a Sunday evening we do a little gardening and a gravel vac every other week or as required.

Once a week. I tried stretching it out to once every 2 wks, but kept losing fish, even though my nitrates didn't get too high and I'm nowhere near overstocked :dunno:

My 10g nano will be done once every 2 wks though, keeping a close eye on nitrates.

I do a partial water change and gravel vac mine about once a week. Clean glass (front only) as needed, usually every 2-3 weeks or so. Same with filter media, change out as needed, you can usually tell by looking. I also have live plants in nearly all my freshwater tanks, didiplis, anacharis, duckweed, etc (all floating plants) that need thinned out occasionally to let light through for the java moss, java fern, etc. growing below. I look on this as "nitrate reduction" in addition to my regular water changes.

I change the water every week :D I don't bother with algae to much, and there's no point in cleaning rock that have been in the tank :) My otos clean up the plants and glass in my big community tank though  They rock :)
