Hi

I was wondering if any one could help me? I am being told a number of different times i should feed my fish, i am unsure which to believe. If you read the back of the fish food it states something like i should feed my fish 2 to 3 times a day, but i have been told my others like my local fish shop that i should feed them ever 2 to 3 days. I have tried feeding them ever 2 to 3 day and when i do feed them they go mad and seem that some of the fish are not getting any food.

it depends what i have in the tank lol
i usually do 2 small feeds a day but have a day a week when i do not feed
you will find what works for you but every time i go near the tanks they think they are going to get fed

I have got 2 large blood parrots, 6 small Malawi's, 4 Clown Loaches, a 12 inch Plec and an eel. The eel and the Malawi's seem to go mad when ever i feed them, but the parrots and the clowns don't seem to bothered and my large parrot seems to be getting thinner.

I think the problem is not the feeding schedule but the fact your fish are incompatible with eachother.

You have some super fast voracious eaters and some very slow eaters.

What size is the tank and what are you feeding them?

I would suggest sorting out your stocking, as this will always be a problem.

My tank is 6 foot by 2 foot. i am feed them a rage of sinking foods and floting foods. What would you say the best thing to do? I feed my plec at night once i have turned my tank light off.

If it were me I'd probably remove the malawis and the eel, I'd also introduce some meaty foods like prawn and such.
In that setup I can't think of any floating foods that would be suitable.

What EXACTLY are you feeding?
As in make of food and type of food.

I dont know the make but it is meant to be a Cichlid sinking food. I also use live blood worm and a tropical fish flake (just a pets at home cheap one).

If it were me then I'd drop the flakes and introduce a arger variety of pellets, examples...shrimp pellets, algae pellets, fresh blanched veg every now n then like baby spinach n such.
Also a few meatier bits of food like prawn, bits of fish etc.

Basically just give them a nice varied diet. And if you're dropping in lots of sinking things then as all your fish are likely to be happy eating in the middle to lower levels of the tank you may see an improvement.
