How often do you do water changes?

I change about 7-10 gallons weekly on my 37 gallon (too lazy to figure out the percent) and however much needs to be changed on the others (until crap stops coming out of the gravel).


Olive, I notice you have a Niger Trigger in your reef tank. They are supposedly nippy and not reef-safe... are you having luck with it?

Around 20% in all of my tanks once a week. Sometime twice a week if it turns out my tap water was particularly ####ty on the previous change. My fish let me know when they are feeling a little yucky

Well, I did have a Niger trigger. My lfs had said that she had noticed them being reef safe. Hubby really wanted one, so we got him.................................(against my wishes). He never did misbehave, but finally my hubby got scared enough of his teeth and decided to take him back.

My LFS keeps them in her reef tanks with no problems............and she has done this for years............she said she has had many clients come in and tell her that their Nigers have been really great fish with no problems, but we just wanted to be extra careful and get him out before he thought about being a shrimp eater. He never did anything to make us take him back, but after my hubby did some more research, he got a little scared. We really miss him. Wish our tank had been a little bigger, and maybe we would have tried more to work it out!

I do 30% weekly on all my tanks except my 150. On that one I syphon the gravel weekly, which amouts to about 10-15 gallons, and then I do an actual water change every ten days or so of about 25%. I don't have any particular reason for it, but this way works, so I guess that's what matters.

on my 85g i do a 40-50% water change on tuesday and friday, it basically gets all its water changed every week i use loads of dechlor i buy 2ltrs at a time.
on my 20g turtle tank i do a 40-50% water change every tuesday
