The reason for this question is that i am a bit of a worrier when it comes to the stats. I have just finished a fishless cycle, where the stats are being checked all of the time. I am now in the first week after adding fish, and im a bit of a paranoid new father. I know how important the first week is..

But.. once you up and running and into a normal routine, how often should you check your stats.. So im interested in what you currently do in the poll, and your comments on what you should do..

EG. how often do you check your PH?

Sorry if this has been done before...

Appreciate your time...

I think that you can worry too much and it takes all the fun out of it. I check my stats once every 2 weeks as a standard, when i do a water change. I also check when i notice any odd behaviour as it can usually be a sign of something ominous.

I test my water stats when I do my 10% water change (twice a week)... once a week is enough though once your tank is established/mature... I'm prob. a little to paranoid too...

All my current tanks are very mature and rock solid - so really once in a blue moon "or when I think there's a problem".

Apart from my planted tank where I monitor Nitrates, kH & pH more regularly (weekly or so) to ensure my CO2 levels are OK :)

I check mine twice per week as my tank is a relatively small volume and I'm keeping a ram in there, so spotting any water troubles fast is kindof necessary for me, but I'd say once per week is a good norm.

Now that my tanks have settled down since I moved to my new apartment last August, I only check my nitrates from time to time. Since my tanks are heavily stocked, they tend to creep up if I don't monitor them.

The only time I check my pH is when I've bought fish online and need to acclimate them to my local water. Then it's easier to test the tank water in an extra tube and keep comparing it with the color of the water the new fish are in as I add tank water to adjust it. When they match, the new fish are ready to go into a quarantine tank. :D

I check mine every week with my water change, even though I probably don't need to. All my tanks have been running at least two years, but I do it anyway. I guess I'm in with the paranoid crowd!

So.. with a newly cycled tank, and just after adding fish.. how often would you check your stats.. daily.. ? and for how long daily?

Cheers
