He's worth his weight in gold :hyper:
I hope you don't mean that literally  I'd say over $80 is too much for a fish that will live 4 years tops -_- I doubt he/she would even make a profit, unless they sold the babies for $50 a piece  They are both beautiful bettas though

I've read breeding journals where males have refused to mate and or screwed up the breeding each and every time (chasing the female, eating all the eggs, not maintaining the nest etc. to the point that a failed breeding is pinpointed to him not pulling his weight...)

Can one eventually overcome this problem? Otherwise, imagine paying 400$ for a hotstuff betta like that only to end up with a hotstuff betta that wont mate? Obviously not implying that this one would be "defective" in that area, but it CAN happen, right?

Ugh! How terribly rediculous! I'd rather buy a whole bunch of cheaper bettas from you betta breeders here than to even think of bidding on one of those
i think id rather pay $400 for a veil than a macrostoma...those htings are so ugly... :alien:
if i had the money, yeah-i might have paid 400 for the first one. i dont think the second one is worth 350 though.

didnt the first copper on aquabid go for $1000?

i think many beginners see auctions like those and then have the common misconception that they can make tons of money by breeding...heh heh...think again sillies!

I believe it was the first gold. But I heard the transaction never went through.

If I were a millionaire, then yeah, I would be purchasing bettas in an outlandish fashion :p But I'm broke, so I'll settle for what I have.

It was the same bidder who won both. I took a flip through their feedback and they seem pretty comfortable paying 100+ per fish. Notice the seller of the copper said he had extra boys available...
I wonder how much they were a piece after the auction was over  Probably not 30.00 as originally planned :p

whoa! beautiful fish, both of them! but you're paying for genes when you pay $$ like that and there's no mention (pics!) of parents/grandparents, so there's no guarantee that they're going to breed true.
Looks like somebody's playing the lottery with those fish.
either that or they've got really expensive tastes and money to burn!
...like I wish I did!
