i have just got anew tank ,ihad a 60l but got a72l this time,as i dont have much space, anyway, i want my new tank to have a sand bottom ,but dont know how deep to put it, its goin to have just corys in it, and wanted to know the best amount ov sand for them example, i inch etc, also ,how many cory ,do u think i could put in my 72ltank ,ONCE ITS CYCLED ,

id say couple of inches or so. a bag of playsand from argos will be plenty, just rinse it out before you put it in, get the worst of the bits out of it.

thaNKS ,ILL GET IT FROM ARGOS, BYE THE WAY, NICE TANK, SET UP U HAVE,THANKYOU :good:

What are the dimensions of the aquarium? If it is at least 2*1 ft on the bottom area, then 10 dwarf or pygmy Corys (of one species).

I used 15kg of sand for 8cm at the back and 2cm at the front. If you are not planning plants, then 1cm of sand should be enough, but I keep plants so usually aim for a 1-2" average.

Natural colour is my favourite, here is what mine currently looks like: http://flickr.com/gp/kitty-kat/50xV4x

Shame about the plants, but 1 cm should be enough then.

Yeah you wont need 2 inches if no plants, Id also say 1-2cm just cause sand can move about and you dont wanna see the bottom of your tank, whats with the caps lol??

You could maybe try Anubias, Java moss and Java fern? They're some of the easiest plants I've ever had and don't need the substrate depth because they need to be attached to wood or rocks.

Thanks, if you want to follow the log, you can find it at http://aquariumadventure.wordpress.com/

Ive got a 72ltr, not sure if yours is 2ft by 1ft but mine took pretty much all of a bag of Argos play sand. I stabbed a couple hundred tiny holes in the bag with an awl, about 1mm, just enough for water to run out but not too much sand, put the bag in a bucket, and a hosepipe in the bag for a few hours over the drain in the garden. The bucket catches any sand that comes from the holes, and it was clean enough to go in the tank, but i gave it a final wash out of the bag bu hand to make sure.

Pretty lazy way of doing it....
