I just got a new 10 gal tank which i plan to set up for a figure 8 puffer. I have an aquaclear 70 that will go on it, but im not sure if the current would be to strong for the figure 8. Well I'm planning on ordering some marine salt and a hydrometer, so i was wondering how much salt i should put in the water to get it to be an SG of 1.006-5? Does anyone know? Say it was a table spoon per 10 gallons, could i mix the table spoon of salt in one gallon container and add it to the tank, then add 9 other freshwater gallons? Thanks for your help.

There is no exact formula for how much salt it takes to reach a desired SG. A kilo (2lb 4oz) of sea salt will make roughly 30 litres (7.5 USG) of sea water when mixed into pure R/O water so as being you want to make 40 litres of brackish water with a SG of 1.005 it should take roughly around 200 grams (7oz) of salt to acheive this level. The exact measure is dependent on the brand of salt you use and how hard or soft the water source you use is, i'd start at 1oz per gallon and after measuring it with a hydrometer see how much more or less salt is needed.
