How many stem plants do I need in a 5g tank to start a silent cycle and get rid of .5ppm of ammonia?

Elodea canadensis is a good fast growing plant

Which I already have. Is there a ball park range where how many plants I should have for it to extract ammonia. I'm sure there isn't really a exact answer though.

Im sure there are many factors to consider. Percentage of Ammonia,Water Column, Number of plants, chems already in the water.....etc

I think the rough estimate people go on is about 75% planted.

Why the silent decision? I have been fishless cycling mine for about a month with plants and its nearly done.

its a matter, of 'what' plants, not the amount. You could stick 20 crypts in and they wouldn't do alot due to them being slow growing and the melt you'll get. The way to do it is to get mainly stem plants and you're looking at a least 30-50% coverage.

Just thought it was the best route for my situation as it is a work tank. Just inconvenience in terms of fishless cycle plus I always love a challenge and it's always nice to learn something new.

Weird how my Bacopa is doing just fine and my Anacharis is melting at the base but budding on the top and sides. I think due to the melting of the leaves my water parameter for nitrite is up to 5ppm from zero in the last 4 days or so.

ammonia and nitrate is still at 0.

I heard that anacharis are easy plants to grow but i swear they are a pain in the butt. I've read that some are having the same issue as me and others are able to grow with little or no problem with not even the basic setup.
