Hi

I have been looking through the forum and I have noticed that people are paying £20-30 for bettas, I phoned my local fish shop and they told me that they would cost £1.99 each. Does this mean they are of inferior quality? or not the right fish. I am after Siamese Fighting Fish (Betta splendens) females and i would like to have about 6-7 in my tank, is this ok? and what sort of price should I look to pay for them.

Thanks

James

well there are diff types of betta fish tails but i think thats it and u cant have 5 betta fish together they would kill ea other. so you have to keep the separated from each other.

Thanks

I have also been looking at pictures and the males seem to have much longer fins and seem to look more beautiful than the females. Do all of the females have shorter fins?

If i decide just to get 1 male and no females what other sort of fish can i keep with it? I am looking to have quite a colourful tank.

Thanks

James

males do much betta on there own, females you can keep together, what size tank do you have? you can get longer finned females but not as long as males, it is still risky with females as you sometimes gget an over aggressive one, or a plakat (short tailed) male

You only pay that sort of money when you are buying an unusual betta splenden, different tail form or say a giant. The betta's in pet shops at £1.99 are normally the more common Veiltail but if you want say a Crowntail you will pay more (supply and demand). The price of the fish may also depend if it was an import from the far east so it would include shippping costs (check out Aquabid).

Female betta prices are the same but they come a lot cheaper, the more expensive ones are the females who can mate with like for like male tail types, so if you bought a female CT and you wanted to breed CT's you would buy a male, but if you put a VT female with a CT male you wouldn't get the nice clean tail definition you would if you bred CT to CT.

Does that help ?

sexing betta is really easy!!
just look at there but lol
a female betta has like a white ball, tube, etc.
males dont have it
thats how u tell them apart
if you fine one with a short tail and it looks like a female check the but if no white dot its a short tail male
