i am going to fishless cycle my new 28L tank, i currently have a 90L tank, which has 2 large sponges, and 2 small sponges from another filter i had before. could i remove one of the small ones and put it into my new filter? my 90L filter is fully cycled with perfect test results everytime.

so decided to find a second hand one, got it for £25 hardly been used.  i would take a look on gumtree or ebay. its an aquaone aquastart 320 if that helps, they are £50ish new.

From the way you described it - leaving 2 large sponges and 1 small sponge in the bigger tank - I think your big tank could handle the change. I have done this before without noticeably damaging the cycling ability of the mature filter. If you worry about how much bacteria is being removed, you could also try cutting a small sponge in half and only take out half of it.

i think it should be fine, i only feed every other day, and the neons dont create much poop, just wanted to make sure it wasnt to much!
