I have read alot about feeding fry 5 or 6 times a day but i leave for work at 7 in the morning and get back at 7 at night so this is not possible for me. Will i still be able to raise fry for any of my fish below ?
Hi Rob
I have to work a few long days too. My guppies have all given bith (4 of them) and are starting their 2nd pregnancies. So far I've moved about 25 into a fry tank but as I couldn't catch them all there are still about 10 in the main tank. They range from 1mm long to about 1cm long and I've been feeding them twice a day. Liquifry four 5 days then pulverized flake. Don't worry, the little critters are survivors even if they're slow growers.
You can deffinately raise guppies and swordtails. I'd actualy say you could raise gouramies too if you had a seperate tank correctly set up for the fry and fed them on microworms (which can last quite a long time you see so you need not feed quite as often).
You could definitely raise guppies and corys, but I think your chances of success with gouramis would be small, since they are difficult to raise under the best of circumstances.
For the corys, do get some microworms started, since they sink to the bottom where they will be available to the fry whenever they are hungry. Once they have grown past this stage, they will be fine eating whenever you feed them.
Even with your hours, you can still feed them in the morning and at least twice in the evening, so they should do well. Don't forget that in addition to feeding them, cory fry require daily small water changes and tank cleanings, and this will take a few minutes of your time too.
for guppies. we just put in some java moss and let it grow. there is nothing else in the tank.é Java moss will promote the growth of some bacteria (infusoria?) that fry munch on.
In nature, I doubt somebody dumps microworms and baby brine shrimp in the lakes and rivers to feed babies! They will just take a bit longer to grow but should be fine
