How Many Tanks And How Much Time Do You Spend On Them?

I'm down from 6 to 5 tanks atm, hopefully it's a temporary blip. Mainly small tanks- one 15 US gal, one 19 gal, one 8 gal, and one 5 gal, and then the 63 gal community tank. Takes a couple of hours a week to do water changes, and maybe another hour to feed, check for fry etc. I've no idea how much time I spend just gazing, don't want to know!

Hmm this all seems to confirm what I already suspected. I spend way to much time messing with my fish :) (glad to see I'm not the only one though).

first of all barney. i had a 45 liter nano not too long ago didnt look nowere near as nice as yours lol with all that live rock must have cost a fortune. what are you planning on having in there.how long have you had it set up for.

thanks :) The tank has been running for just over a month now. My original plan was to get a watch keeper goby and pistol shrimp. Last weekend though my LFS had some blood/fire shrimp in stock so I got one of them (and two big shrimp in a small tank will be too much I think). The watchkeeper/pistol shrimp will have to wait till I get the big reef tank set up.

Will probably just end up getting a purple firefish and a goby of some sort. I'm thinking about just a pair of clowns in there but think it might be a bit too small for them (though I know lots of people do keep clowns in similar sized tanks with good results).

In my bedroom, 5 tanks, in the living room, 1 tank.
spend maybe an hour a day feeding and fiddling around, more if i have new fry.
spend probably 5 hours once a weeks doing water changes, pruning and replanting, etc.
about 3 hours per week drooling in the local LFSs.
about 10 hours per week watching the tanks in the bedroom.

so probably more than 20 hours per week, but a lot of that is just time enjoying the fish, not actual work.

Currently set-up I have

1 x 10gallon Turtle tank (temp set-up, 40gallon tank not set-up will be future home when I set it up.)
1x 10gallon Pacman frog tank
1 x 2gallon Emperor Scorpion tank
2 x 1gallon betta fish tanks
1 x 12gallon community tank
1x 55 gallon semi-agressive community tank
1x 29gallon (holding my friends green terror as his 29gallon started to leak.)
1x 75 gallon African Cichlid tank
1x 72gallon bowfront Saltwater Reef tank.
and soon 1x 10gallon community tank for my girlfriend.

So a total of 10 tanks currently, 11 soon.

Not set-up I have

1x 10gallon
1x 20gallon long
1x 40gallon
1x 2.5gallon

I spend about 6 hours on all of these tanks only (I've got it down to a routine lol), the total time I spend enjoy the fish? Probably about 35hours a week.

1 - 75 gallon (Oscar and Pleco tank)
1 - 40 gallon (Convict tank)
1 - 20 gallon (lelupi tank)
1 - 20 gallon (Convict fry tank)
1 - 10 gallon, 3 - 5 gallon, 2 - 2.5 gallon (Guppy tanks)

All told, I spend a lot of time. LOL

Maintainence:

75, 40 - 1 hour each.
2 - 20 - 1 hour total
Guppies - Forever!!! LOL I'm constantly messing with the guppies. :)

That doesn't take into account the daily feeding, which takes about 30 minutes total, or the time I spend just watching. :) The Oscar tank sits between my desk and the TV, so I'm constantly watching Ody and his antics. ;)

1 Tank, very little time needed to maintane and only a few minutes a day feeding :) WHEY!

i have a 55, a 60, a 20 and a 10. i'd say about 5 hours every sunday for the normal maintenance water changes. 30 minutes daily for feeding and about an hour a day just looking. it's my favorite part of my day. i totally unwind after work with my fishies. :)

i have 4 tanks loads of bn fry to care for tend to hatch the eggs the males kick out been very sucesfull loads of kit that i sort out spend about 2 hours a day maybe a bit more

cheers dane

A few minutes daily checking that things are in order. Every fifth day or so I'll spend roughly half an hour performing a water change. A furter hour weekly sorting plants that the pleco uproot. Not much time at all really.

Geez, you want me to count? AND guesstimate time? You've got to be kidding.

lol I remeber seeing the photos you posted of your setup so I guess we can just cut it down to "Number of tanks=Lots, Time to maintain=more then an hour a week" :)

Edit: I think this rule can apply to anyone else that also has at least one room where more space is taken up by water then air :p
