Hi everyone! :) I have a fully cycled 10 gallon tank. I used to have a few platies and guppies a while ago and now I only have 1 male guppy and 1 female platy. They get along just fine but I was thinking about getting some new fish. I know I want some male guppies but I dont know how the female platy would do if they chase her or fight over her since there is just one female. So maybe I should get a couple female platies too? I also want a single dwarf gourami. I have heard they are peaceful fish. I would rather have more guppies than platies. Anyway, what do you think I should get?

I think you could probably get a few more male guppies, but I'd suggest a few female guppies too, unless you don't want fry. Would it be possible to rehome the platy if things don't work out?

I wouldn't put a DG in a 10g tank, it's just too small. Also, the DGs that have been available lately are prone to Dwarf Gourami disease, which is a horrible affliction that's always fatal. There are other very nice gouramis out there that do much better, but I don't think I'd get any for a 10g tank.

Just my 2 cents.

Okay, I don't want fry if possible. I'm afraid it will over crowd the tank and I wouldnt be able to do anything with them. So no gouramis in a 10 gallon? I want something that would be a "center piece" like a gourami. Do you know another type of fish that would do okay in a 10 gallon? Thanks! :)

I wouldnt get a DG only because there is a horrible disease going around like The Old Spouse mentioned.

This is what I would do ultimately.
3 Female Platys
4 Guppies

I would also recommend two weekly water changes of 25% each. Only feed once per day. ;)

Any other fish a little larger than guppies and platies that would be okay?

I cant think of anything. You could get a mystery snail or two. Even some ghost shrimp if you would like. :)

Perhaps a trio of sparkling gouramis?
