Why does it matter, I think you will find the content of peoples comments highlight whether they are newbies or not, no matter how many fish they have on their sig. Besides being a newbie is nothing to be ashamed of.
Im still a newbie no matter what it says.

really i didnt think i posted that many and i only signed up 3 days ago

*Quick edit as she sees how many posts she has done*

i guess it depends what you are posting for mostly mine has been to find out what fish i have in my tank.

others have been more constructive with there posts

I agree with these quotes above, I'm a 'Newbie' 'n00b' etc, theres nothing wrong with it. Like so many on other boards I have been on, people post at least 50 times a day and 99.9% is utter crap, and after a while, they have a post count of 3000 and yet have nothing really to show for it.
Like many users, I refrain from topics if I don't know what I'm talking about, or don't think it'll help with the answer, and when I do give an answer, I try to give a some bulk to an answer/question.

Take time out to read topics, that'll give you knowledge, that someone somewhere may actually need, thats what I did for about a week before I joined this forum

More posts does not equal Experience

I think this is like my 7th post, and I joined a few days ago

As has been said, the post count doesn't matter. I have lost track of mine, I just don't look at it. On other forums I might have only a very few because it is a forum that I found recently. The comments that you make when talking about fish, not this kind of thread, reveal a lot more than the post count. One forum that I go onto has people who open every thread on the board and make a comment. Their contribution is minimal but their counts go high very quickly. On this forum there are some truly expert livebearer breeders with relatively low counts. Their expertise is evident when they do decide to post but they don't do it very often. I can tell the quality of their posts more because I also breed livebearers and have some experience at it than because their counts tell me anything.

I agree, post count is mostly irrelevent, I've been here for a few days (a week? not sure) and barely posted at all, nut I spend a lot of time reading other peoples posts so it doesn't really show anything...

why does it matter? a post count dosent mean more/less experience.. look at me ( cant remeber how many but i know nothing,i just talk too much  )

and i actaully wouldnt feel so daft asking some of the Q`s that i do if i still have "newbie" under my name

dont concentrate on the status, just enjoy the forum and what it stands for :)

some people have les sposts but contain more information, the likes of nmonks come to mind.
whereas some people just ask pointless questions like

can i have this fish
is my stocking ok
can i have this plant
why dont my plants grow
is my fish pregnant
my fish has died, why?
what is this fish/plant
if i add more light will my plants grow better? (the 2WPG club come to mind)
why do i have algae

all pointless and all can be solved by research on google or on this forum, thats why some people have lots of posts and still cant tell a fish from a pogo stick. :good:
when i joined, i didnt post for about 2-3 weeks (apart from to say hello) as i was just reading all the time. so much info to take in, thats the best thing a newbie can do, the info is all here, just use the SEARCH function, not many people do it seems, i for one get fed up of answering the above questions

nick, the forum is there for answering questions, so once one has been answered your suggesting it is never asked again? and people use the search facility?

that way the forum wouldnt be a forum...it would be a resource centre.

i see your point but when you click 'view new posts' and there are 3 or 4 posts on the same topic on the first page alone, it does get a bit silly. The question has been answered one time but people seem to need to post again 30 mins later with the same topic/question?

the search facility is there for a reason, to see if anyone before you has asked a question and to find information, people should at least search before asking a question..
