it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission
:D was wondering if it was just me i got a thin linned loach as a pakistani loach
i bought a syno negreventis and got a S.nigrita which is alot bigger
an african clawed frog bought as a dwaft

i didn't know and i was stupid enough to trust the lfs, from now on i will study what fish i want before going

How about this one "Sure, that Tiger Shovelnose will be fine in a community tank"

After a little research it seems that the community tank would be fine IN the Tiger Shovelnose. :-(

yes i have i went to buy 4 dwarf gouramis and they gave me 3 and a powder blue gourami but he is still B E A U.........T I F U L lol

A friend of mine bought three White Cloud Mountain Minnows, and they tried to give him one without a tail.. it was just a stub.
I insisted they exchange it for a whole WCMM, as he's not exactly got the setup required to attempt to grow it back, and I doubt he'd know what to do with a tailess fish. :/ And I have no place for one WCMM.

One of my first purchases from my lfs was two red tailed black sharks when I said to the assistant that they were really cool I was told make sure I bought at least two of them or they would get lonely.

Yeah right, they hate each other!!

It might involve more than one trip to the lfs but I will be doing a lot more research and not banking on "impartial" advice anymore.

I bought a Butterfly Plec yesterday, I know it is actually a Hill Stream Loach !
that wasn't technically mis labelled, as it's 1 of the many common names for them.

my 3 fave lfs sayings!!!

"well 3 sucking loaches will do nicely with your angels, they're very peacful community fish that are stunning for keeping your tank and substrate clear of algea"

"no you wont need to buy a separate tank for your male betta, they're community freindly"

"the silver shark will grow up to 8" MAX, but will only grow to the size of your tank"

the best shop i went into was one today they're selling clownloaches for £3 a piece and that's the highest price fish they have!! this is a comment from the lady at the shop earlier on when i asked if a yamato shrimp would eat my snails!!

"well, to be honest with you i dont have a clue mate, i'm just covering my husbands break, come back tomorrow or call him up later and he'll tell you"

this was well cool cos she actually advised me not to get them till she called her hubby! an lfs worker that admitted to knowing bugger all!! i think she deserves a reward!!

I can relate to the guy who bought the two red tailed sharks. My LFS sells rainbow sharks (very similair to red-tails) by 3's. The tanks said 3 for ________. So stupid me assumed that you could put three in the tank. Wrong. I think it was just a trick to get people to buy larger tanks in a couple of years. You have to buy atleast one or two more or they will kill each other. On top of that they grow to 6 inches. That's 6X6=36"of fish. The guy at the LFS knew that I had a 29 gallon tank. He also sold me on the same day a pictus catfish 8"(Which BTW need to be in a school of at least 3) 3 gourami 3"each a common pleco 20"!!! i mean seriously. If this is not animal cruelty WHAT IS!!!! To top it all off I actually bought them. I am SO stupid. READ BEFORE YOU BUY KIDDIES.

A girl at my LFS once told me "any fish on this wall can be housed together"... those fish included red devils, oscars, jellybean parrots, rams, festivums, and a lot of African cichlids. At least half of those fish would have eaten one-another.
I forgive her, though, because she was new (had only been hired two days prior.) It still doesn't excuse the fact that she has rocks for brains, though

Hi PaulMTS, do they have lots of different names? On a different forum I said that I had looked at different places to identify my pleco and the moderator told me what it really was. While I was in lfs I asked the ph of the water and they didn't know! My ph is quite high 7-7.5 which is fine for my existing fish but I bought a Bristlenose Plec as well so I wanted to know. It seems fine anyway. :)

I wanted something to tackle algae in my community. I saw algae loaches and thought yay! (you know whats comming) I asked for 5 and they said "if you get six, you get one free" so there I was with what turned out to be 7 CAE's :S they soon went back!!

Another lfs sold me 2 SAP's for my community "fine as long as you have no long finned fish" should have missed out the "long finned", then they would have been correct.
